Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC Sickle Cell Program

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is one of three medical centers funded by Pennsylvania’s Division of Maternal and Child Health to receive newborn sickle cell screening test results. Since 1978, Children’s has been identifying children with sickle cell disease and providing children and parents with counseling, follow-up care and further genetic testing. Currently, Children’s hematologists and oncologists care for 200 children, teens and young adults up to 21 years of age with sickle cell disease.

Duquesne University School of Nursing

The purpose of the School of Nursing is to prepare nurses to practice professional nursing to meet the dynamic health care needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities. Faculty facilitate the education of students in the art and science of nursing to provide ethical, holistic, culturally competent, and population-based care in collaboration with a variety of health care systems. The Duquesne University School of Nursing is one of our outreach partners for community education.

Hands on Tech

Hands on Tech is a program developed through a partnership among the volunteer organization Hands on Network, AmeriCorps VISTA and Google, It is meant to bring technology experts to those organizations that need them most. Pittsburgh Cares, a local affiliate of the Hands on Network and Points of Light Institute, launched Hands on Tech Pittsburgh in October 2011. Hands on Tech has provided an organizational technical assessment and technical support for our move to Google for nonprofits and Microsoft Dynamic CRM database.

Primary Care Health Services (PCHS) - Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Demonstration Project

The Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Demonstration Program enhances the prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease through the coordination of service delivery, genetic counseling and testing, bundling of technical services, training of health professionals, and other related efforts. PCHS is a partner providing oversight and primary health care to our participants.

Sickle Cell Society, Inc.

The Society offers adult SCD patients and families an educational resource and comprehensive treatment center that ensures complete access to medical, psychosocial and educational services with a holistic approach to early diagnosis and on-going treatment that improves a patient's ability to understand, fight and manage the effects of sickle cell disease. The Sickle Cell Society is a Community Partner that collaborates with us on various forms of outreach.

The Children's Institute

The Children’s Institute is a program partner that provides the facilities for the Wellness Program – Saturday SMASH4Success with Learn2Swim and KarateFit components, Back2School Bash and Season2Give Program.

University of Pittsburgh Genetic Counseling Program

The Genetic Counseling Program in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh was established in 1971 and is the second oldest program nationally. Recent discoveries concerning the genetic origins of diseases mean that genetic counseling has an increasingly important role in health care delivery. This partnership provides access to certified genetic counselors and genetic counseling students to our community outreach program.
